How Scoring Works
For our uses, our "zero-buoy scoring" begins at 40KPH. Everyone is in the same "division" as far as starting speed. So as you look at these divisions, the scores are incremented by powers of 6.
For example, a score of 30 indicates 6@30MPH/49KPH@15 off. That's 6 buoys for 40KPH, 43KPH, 46KPH, and 49KPH, plus another 6 for running the pass at 15 off.
On the top end, there is a small descrepency because if you're a 55KPH skier, you have 6 fewer buoys to ski around to achieve the same "zero-buoy score". So a score of 78 buoys could mean you ran 35 of at 58KPH, or 38 off at 58 kph.
We're still tweaking our scoring system. As you log more and more sets, your average becomes more "cemented". But we're going to introduce some new ways of counter acting this as we approach the 2010 Summer Season.
