You know you're a skier when...

...your two year old asks for a waterski video instead of any other kids show.

Ya, that's right.  Last night my two year old son (who was recovering from a surgery yesterday morning) asked my wife to put a waterski video in instead of any of the other kid shows he could have chosen.  The best part is, she didn't even throw the waterski video out as an option...he came up with it on his own.  Atta boy.  So he watched Slash...the entire movie and freaked out when I turned it off to watch the news.  Don't worry though, I made sure to give him one of my waterski mag's to go to bed with last night. smile

Re: You know you're a skier when...

He was born with Strabismus, which basically means his eyes have a hard time tracking together (like a lazy eye thing).  So they went in and cut some of the eye muscles to make them shorter, or longer depending on what was needed.

Not a huge deal (pretty common procedure), and he is recovering just fine thanks for asking.

Re: You know you're a skier when...

tjo, hadn't ever heard of stabismus until, you got it, my son was also diagnosed over 10 years ago...He has worn glasses since the surgery and around 6 yrs. old his vision started to improve. I only share this because I know how freaked out I was, but wanted you to know that it is indeed very common and he will do fine! I have kept very detailed records of the progress and would share any info. if it would ever be of help to you..good luck!  Joe

Re: You know you're a skier when...

Thanks Joe!  How old is he now?  Any problems with depth perception (i.e. will he have a problem skiing the course later)?  Thought about asking these question in a personal email, but decided against it since others (now or in the future) may benefit from it...hope that's ok.

Re: You know you're a skier when...

Let's keep this rolling: You know you're a water skier when...

- The depth of the garage and slope of the driveway are major factors in any home purchase
- You're better at predicting weather than actual meteorologists
- You'll pause to appreciate any body of glass calm water, regardless of how small
- You find yourself calculating "whether a course will fit" in every borrow pit and pond you pass while driving
- Empty water, milk, and bleach jugs never make it to the recycling bin
- You're surprised that anyone can do anything outside on a windy day
- You've used a doorway at home or at work for some sort of lean drill
- You've practiced your reach while pushing the lawn mower

Keep it rolling...

Re: You know you're a skier when...

that's the spirit

...you will take trade two hours out of your day for 15 minutes of actual ski time and consider it the best two hours of the day
...you spend hours on google earth searching for the perfect lake (or potential lake) in your community

Re: You know you're a skier when...

Travis,

They are 12 and 10 now and no problem at all with the course. In fact, both are running 15 off at about 26mph. They wear glasses all the time, except in the water of course, but have never complained about not seeing the balls, course, etc. I did send you an email, let me know if you got it..

Re: You know you're a skier when...

That's ironic Wade. We've been trolling all year to find 2 or 3 sunfish for blowout days.
When it's a blowout, you've got to do something, especially if you've driven a hour or more.
Unfortunately they're harder to find than I thought they'd be.

Also, with no stop on the mast, the sail makes a pretty good wind indicator.

In my experience, rigging the sail boat = glass calm conditions!

So true Wade.  Whenever I haul the windsurfer down to Lake Powell, it is usually a very calm week.

Here's another one:

...you wake up earlier when on vacation than when you are working

I found myself saying "yep" to every one of Joel's observations...except the milk jug one.  smile

I'll add:  When you look at every flag you see, and based on the direction and intensity of the wind, you imagine what the ski lake conditions would be.  Even if it's frozen over.  sad

It's a pretty good indication when your commute to work everyday is between an hour to three hours (one way, depending on traffic) so you can live in a Lake Community in SoCal

1. You fall asleep in your bed but wake up in your boat
2. You have more wet suits and dry suits than work suits
3. You lay out and organize your ski gear each night before bed to make it quicker to hit the water the next am
