Gold or Black Fin?

Hi Chris,

My 67" MPD came with a gold fin and I've heard something about a black fin some folks are using.  If you know about the black fin will you explain the difference in the two?

Are the fin settings the same?

Have you tried a carbon fin from John Horton?

Thx.,  CD

Re: Gold or Black Fin?

CD,
The "black" fin is the same shape as Goode, HO, or Connelly.  The gold fin has a little more surface area in the back to help initiate tip grab especially in the preturn of the off-side.  The numbers are exactly the same except with the black fin we run 0.010 longer.

Re: Gold or Black Fin?

Yes I have tried one.  I did not find a significant difference so I have stuck with the aluminum fins.  I have seen skiers have great results with the carbon fins that John makes, so if it's working, keep rolling with it!
