I am having trouble with choice of proper ski length.

I am 5'9'' 185 lbs and will ski 34 - 36 mph . The ski will be a 2008 Radar RS1. Some of the posts have suggested when borderline on skiing on the RS1 they would choose shorter of the two 67'' instead of the 68''.  It seems I am just about the right height and weight to go either way anyone help? Please.

Re: I am having trouble with choice of proper ski length.

Hey i had the same delima when i was shopping for a new ski this fall. i'm 6' and 186lb I found a 2008 radar annex. both sizes 67'' and 68''. My plan for skiing was to ski up the rope more and eventually go up beyond 34mph. And because of these goals i choose the 68'' because when i was lookin at the chat below. i figured i wasn't getting any smaller, so it'd probably best to stick with a 68'' in the long run. especially if it won't kill me now.

Boat Speed     26-30 mph     30-34 mph     34-36 mph
80-110 lbs     63-64"               62-64"              -------
95-120 lbs     65-66"               63-64"             63-64"
115-140 lbs     65-66"                 63-64"            63-64"
135-160 lbs     67-68"             65-66"           65-66"
155-180 lbs     69"                     67-68"           67-68"
175-200 lbs     69"                69"                   67-68"
195-220 lbs     72"                     69"              69"
215 lbs +         72"                72"                    72"

hope this helps!!

Hey I appreciate your time.I started reading some posts about tip chatter and popping up in the turn. It read as it was in the pre apex of turn. Can movement of binding placement forward cure this and which size is this more likely to occur?

Re: I am having trouble with choice of proper ski length.

The 1st step might be to evaluate your current set up. (bindings, fin: dft. depth & length) Dbl. check your present set up against factory or recommended settings here on PSC. Then, I would Look at your technique on video. Maybe get a competent 2nd opinion on your tech. even before changing any of your current #'s...

Re: I am having trouble with choice of proper ski length.

Totally agree with H2Odawg79!!!!!!!! :]
but to answer your question, yes sliding your bindings forward will help. I was told, when your skiing its good to have your bindings set up so that if someone (or you) were to look at your skiing your ski should brake the water almost right at your front toes. Least that's what i was told and how i ended up tuning my old ski. but yeah... check your settings and your form before messing with your settings. you might not have to move them about but instead fine tune your body alignment :]

Re: I am having trouble with choice of proper ski length.

All depends on - lines you are skiing and the water conditions you ski in.

15- 32 /35 off or rough water or soft water you can use the 68" ski. The water is softer at 34 MPH. More surface area is more stable and will keep the speed up.

Short lines 35+ and hard water/36 mph the smaller ski because you are going to need all of the front end bite from the ski and fast turns. And at these lines you likely have the ability to accelerate the smaller ski.
